Welcome!

Welcome! This blog was created so that me as a student can tell you a little bit more about the Diploma of Business and Social Enterprise (BZSE) as well as to share with you a little bit of my experiences.

----------

I am Derek Lee, a year one student studying in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I am currently pursuing a diploma in Business and Social Enterprise. Before I tell you about my experiences in this course, let me tell you more about the diploma.

Business and Social Enterprise is a course offered by Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Humanities (HMS). BZSE enables YOU to be the new generation of changemakers. The diploma will train you to be proficient in business skills, IT skills, management skills, communication skills and all the essentials necessary to set up a business or to manage businesses. But it is more than just Business. You will learn social skills that will help you make an impact and attain social objectives through business.

BZSE has a unique learning approach. Students get to learn beyond what textbooks and classroom learning can achieve as they are offered many opportunities to work with real social entrepreneurs. Students get to take part in overseas trips to see the world, make an impact and go beyond classroom learning.

Let me tell you a bit of my experiences in BZSE.

Before I enrolled into this course, I didn't know what I wanted to do in life. It might sound all cliche to you people but enrolling into the right course determines what I am going to do for my career. I had a tough decision to make, with all the booklets and open house talks, There was just so many roads I can take from there.

So how did BZSE come to play? Well, I know that I, for one, am interested in Business. So I applied to Business Studies (BS) as my first choice, BZSE as my second choice. Somehow, I didn't get into BS, I ended up in BZSE.
I applied for BZSE as my second choice after I learnt about it through the polytechnic's open house. Changing lives through business seemed to be meaningful.

Looking back, I should have applied for BZSE as my first choice! I was blessed to end up at BZSE. With the awesome classmates I enjoy working with and having fun with to the very things we are supposed to do. The assignments which were given to us was no doubt challenging, but meaningful. Through hard work and determination, it's good to see results at the end of the day. One major project was to document a social enterprise in a movie and poster. It was a memorable experience to interview a social entrepreneur and to gain insight to this whole "Social Enterprise" idea. Other than that, Business management and IT Application equipped me with the skills to be IT savvy and to be a socially responsible manager. All of which I find very relevant.

I could talk all day about my experiences in BZSE, all of which are very memorable and special to me. Learning experiences are not confined within the classroom. 4 months into the diploma and I have experienced so much. I am looking forward to future challenges and experiences!

This is the testimony of a BZSE student.

Business and Social Enterprise, Business with a heart.
